Chanko Oden at Bugis Street brings authentic Japanese comfort food culture to Singapore's bustling shopping district, specializing in traditional oden hot pot that offers both cultural authenticity and exceptional value for customers seeking genuine Japanese culinary experiences. Located at 3 New Bugis Street, this specialized takeaway kiosk opened on December 31, 2022, inspired by the owner's fond memories of oden experiences during trips to Japan and a desire to share this beloved Japanese street food with Singapore's diverse community. The restaurant represents the growing trend of authentic Japanese street food concepts that make traditional flavors accessible to international audiences while maintaining the cultural significance and preparation methods that define genuine oden cuisine.
The restaurant specializes in authentic oden, a traditional Japanese one-pot stew featuring over 30 different ingredients, each carefully prepared and served on skewers with prices starting from just .50 per piece. Signature offerings include sweet potato, mochi kinchaku (fried tofu filled with mochi), various seafood items, vegetables, and specialty ingredients, all simmered in traditional seafood-based dashi broth flavored with bonito flakes and sake for authentic umami depth. The menu extends beyond standard dashi to include rotating seasonal flavors like tomato and tom yum broths that blend Japanese techniques with international influences, plus complementary items including roasted chestnuts and baked sweet potatoes that reflect traditional Japanese street food culture. Each item is expertly prepared using traditional methods and served in convenient cups with rich, flavorful broth that captures the essence of Japanese comfort food.
Operating daily from 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Chanko Oden provides convenient access to authentic Japanese street food with portable service designed for Singapore's fast-paced lifestyle while maintaining the quality and authenticity that define traditional oden preparation. The takeaway format makes this authentic Japanese experience accessible to busy shoppers exploring Bugis Street's numerous attractions, allowing customers to enjoy genuine Japanese comfort food while discovering other cultural and shopping experiences in the area. With expansion to IMM Outlet Mall demonstrating the concept's appeal, Chanko Oden has successfully introduced Singapore diners to an important aspect of Japanese food culture while adapting the traditional format to local preferences and lifestyle needs. The restaurant's commitment to authenticity, affordability, and convenience has made it a valuable addition to Singapore's diverse international food landscape and Bugis Street's reputation as a destination for authentic cultural experiences.
Didn’t try the oden. The hot favourite at this stall seems to be the $1 ice cream. It’s big, creamy and flavourful. At $1 each, it's good value for money. Cone is crunchy, fresh and slightly sweet. Both strawberry and matcha are delicious, but my preference is matcha. It's not as sweet, with a strong hint of green tea flavour. Strawberry ice cream tastes like frozen packet strawberry milk, perhaps more suitable for kids.

Authentic oden using quality ingredients.
I love the radish, kelp, and konjac noodles.

Good for comfort food/snacks. There are tables and chairs for people to sit inside, relax, and chill.
Vending machines are available for drinks and packet snacks.
Toilets are nearby too. Very convenient.

If you miss Japanese Oden, now you can get it here. I visited the Bugis kiosk. There are more than 30 items offered. The broth is flavorful, made with bonito flakes and kombu, without any MSG or flavoring. Must also try the Baked Japanese sweet potato and roasted chestnut.

Tried it on a weekday and there was no queue. Staff were friendly. Items were okay, but personally I think the soup can taste better. Perhaps add oil.

Cute oden takeout kiosks with all my favorite 关东煮🍢 selections. Missed these snacks in Japan, and this stall brings back good old Nihon memories. Very affordably priced too. They have honey sweet potato too. Will visit again for their oden in the evenings! (Afternoon is super hot!!)

The perfect comfort food with over 20+ choices of oden and udon in hot bonito and kelp broth. We were super full afterwards, especially after eating a large baked sweet potato (SGD 3.5).

Really good ice cream. Highly recommended if you visit Bugis Street.
Matcha cream is big, cheap (only 1S$), and delicious (not sweet, tastes exactly like Japanese ice cream).

I tried their Bugis outlet before, and recently tried their new outlet at IMM. Soup still as good as ever. $8.80 for 3 skewers plus udon! Super worth it, I will buy again!

I've got to recommend this! It's especially good during rainy days. The soup was superb; however, once warm, it's not as nice as when hot, so it's best to drink as much soup as possible first. 😋
Try as many items as possible, but I'd say you'll be quite full after 6 items. So go and try it! 👍

Located at Bugis Street, facing Albert Hawker Centre, they offer Japanese oden for a reasonable price of $2 each, and it comes with a nice, flavorful soup. The only catch is that you need to make a minimum purchase of 3 items.
What's even more tempting is their offer of matcha or strawberry milky cones for just $1, and these are absolutely delicious. If you're in the area and looking for a tasty treat, this is a great choice.

A great find behind Bugis Street! The soft serve is yummy, and the cone is crispy and thick. Worth the money!

The soup is very flavourful and yet very light, and very healthy as they only use natural ingredients to make the soup. They have a wide range of choices for their 關東煮! All at affordable prices as well!
I also tried their ice cream, very milky at only $1! Yum yum! Definitely recommend this place!

We recently visited Chanko Oden in Bugis Street and tried their soft-serve milk vanilla matcha ice cream. It was amazing!
The matcha flavor was rich and refreshing, making every bite so enjoyable.
The cone was also fantastic—crispy and well-made, adding the perfect touch to the creamy ice cream.
Highly recommend this treat for anyone craving a delicious matcha experience!

Japanese-style Matcha and chocolate-flavoured ice cream is available for $1 (cup) and $1.20 (cone). Reasonably-priced oden 🍢 is also offered, which is not easy to find in Singapore. The shop owner is friendly as well 💯.
